Dams of Anuradhapura tanks re-inforced

Dams of the major tanks in the Anuradhapura district, such as Nuwarawewa, Tisawewa, Maha Kanadarawa, Mahawilachchiya, Padaviya, Huruluwewa, Nachchaduwa, Wahalkada and Manankattiya will be re-inforced under the World Bank funded Dam safty and Water Resources Planning Project.
Anuradhapura District Irrigation Director Wasantha Palugaswewa told the Daily News that construction work of the bunds of Tisawewa, Huruluwewa, Nachchaduwa and Nuwarawewa reservoirs have been initiated amidst intermittent gusts in the area slowing down the progress.
He said that Rs 156 million, Rs 112 million, Rs 140 million and Rs 147 million have been allocated for dams safety work on Nuwarawewa, Tisawewa, Huruluwewa and Nachchaduwa respectively According to him, for the dam safety work of Rajangane, Rs 593 million has been estimated.
