Police said today that investigations have commenced into the alleged abduction of the brother of the Kolonnawa Urban Council Chairman. Police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana states that so far no clear information has been received regarding the incident.
The individual, Janaka Prabath, was reportedly abducted by an unidentified group in a white van while he was working at the garbage dump in Meethotamulla at around 9.30am yesterday (Feb. 02).
An eyewitness to the incident told Ada Derana that a group comprising six armed men had arrived in the white van and kidnapped the individual.
Prabath’s wife and brother, Kolonnawa UC Chairman Ravindra Udayashantha, accuse the Deputy Chairman of the Urban Council over the incident alleging that his brother was abducted in an act of revenge against him.
However, when Ada Derana inquired from the Kolonnawa Deputy Chairman, Suresh Kodagoda regarding the accusations he responded: “The truth about who is guilty and who is innocent will be revealed if an impartial investigating is conducted.”
