The Colombo Magistrate's Court Lawyers Association yesterday staged a protest against the shifting of the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court complex to another place from Hulftdorp.

Colombo Magistrate's Court President P D Perera said that they will continue with the protest until the authorities remove the gazette notification to remove the Colombo Magistrate's Court complex to Battaramulla, Kollonnawa and Mahara.

Over thousand lawyers participated in the protest shouting slogans stating that they will protect the 100-year-old Colombo Chief Magistrate's court complex.

"We have no politics but are only trying to safeguard the noble profession and the Colombo magistrate's court complex," Perera said.

Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) president Shibly Aziz and BASL secretary Lokuge also participated in the protest.
