Bus operators clash: 29 arrested

Several buses which had not taken part in the ongoing strike have reportedly been attacked today (Feb. 13) allegedly by other bus operators. Twenty-nine (29) persons were arrested in connection to the attacks on private buses operating in the Narahenpita area, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said.

Meanwhile four individuals, three private bus drivers and one conductor, have been arrested in Matara.

Police have provided maximum protection to private buses not engaged in the strike and SLTB buses, the spokesman said.

He revealed that police personnel have been deployed in mobile patrols to provide security to buses which are operating despite the strike and that  the law will be strictly implemented against individuals engaging in violence.
