A mathematics and science national olympiad 2008 has been organised by the Mathematics and Science Division of the Education Ministry to introduce students towards national industries and promote dedication among them towards patriotism, self-confidence.
This follows a directive given by Education Minister Susil Premajayantha to introduce a process which would help students to become creative professionals and scientists in future, the Education Ministry said in a release.
The first stage of this programme has already been completed by selecting the provincial team through a competitive examination for students who obtained the highest marks at the 2007 scholarship examination. These students will be given a two months training at provincial pools, the release said.
The training programme started on June 14. A day on each weekend is reserved for training. After training, 108 students will be chosen to participate in the national competition on the basis of 12 from each province.
