Saudi offers Rs.225 million for road networks construction
The Kingdom has offered financial aid worth SR225 million for the construction of road networks in Sri Lanka. The draft agreement for the financial assistance was finalized in Riyadh on Monday during a meeting between the Vice Chairman of the Saudi Fund For Development (SFD) Yusuf Al-Bassam and Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Sri Lanka’s secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, at the SFD headquarters in Riyadh on Monday.

SL’s first electric speed train by year’s end
Sri Lanka’s first electric speed train from the Colombo Airport to Fort is expected to be commissioned by end of 2012 by a Malaysian based company. The train would bring a passenger from the Arrivals and Departures Lounges of the Airport building to Fort in 25 minutes and a special railway station would be set up near Fort which would have access to the Pettah Bus terminal and Maradana Railway Station and two main roads.

Gama Neguma aims at one project per village
The Economic Development Ministry has drawn up plans to provide ‘One project per village’ under the Gama Neguma Project, ministry Additional Secretary R R A K Ranawaka said. The national ceremony for the ‘One project per village programme’ will be held in Kalutara on March 23. The ministry has allocated Rs 14,000 million for this project for 2012, Ranawaka said.

N-E reconstruction over by next year
All development programmes and reconstruction activities implemented in conflict affected areas are to be completed by the end of 2013, Economic Development Ministry sources said yesterday. Cottage industry training under Divi Neguma
Around 2,610 persons have been trained in cottage industries under the Divi Neguma programme up to now.
