New building complex
Prime Minister D. M Jayaratne will open a three storeyed building complex at the historical Rankoth Viharaya in Panadura at 4. p.m today. External Affairs Minister Prof G.L. Peiris ,former parliamentarian for Panadura and managing director of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine Dr. Neville Fernando and Kelaniya University Vice Chancellor Prof Sarath Amunugama will be among the distinguished invitees to speak at the opening ceremony.

Lanka seeks 5,800 Haj pilgrims quota
Sri Lanka requested yesterday a quota of 5,800 pilgrims for the forthcoming Haj pilgrimage this year. The request was made by visiting Sri Lankan senior minister for Urban Development Abdul Hameed Mohamed Fowzie during his meeting with Minister of Haj Bandar Hajjar in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Quran now in Sinhala
Islam has spread throughout the world and the Quran has been translated into several languages. Sri Lankans now have facilities to read the Quran in Sinhala, Prime Minister and Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Minister D M Jayaratne said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa participated in various religious ceremonies at the Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya on Sunday to mark the 2600th anniversary of the Buddha's first visit to Sri Lanka. Sri Weerathungaramaya gets Rs 11.4 m shrine room
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday opened a new shrine room at Sri Weerathungaramaya in Madihe, Matara to coincide with the 2600th Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthiya. Over Rs. 12 million had been spent to construct the new shrine room at the temple.
