Anandasangaree’s plea to Commonwealth leaders
TULF leader V. Anandasangaree today stated that those who seriously desire for peace and tranquility to return to Sri Lanka, are “duty bound” to persuade India and Canada to attend the Commonwealth summit. No leave for Prisons Department employees during CHOGM
The Prisons Department has cancelled all its employees’ leave requests until November 20 in an attempt to tighten security in prisons during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). It is reported that a special security programme will be implemented daily in the prisons during this time period. The Prisons Department stated that these measures are being taken as there is a risk of prison inmates acting in a disorderly manner during the CHOGM period.

UPDATE: Death toll rises to 9 in Poonagala bus crash
The death toll has risen to nine after a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus veered off the road and fell into a precipice in the Poonagala area in Bandarawela. It was initially reported that five passengers on the bus were killed and another 18 were injured in the crash.

CaFFE condemns expulsion of Australian journalists
The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) and Centre for Human Rights and Research (CHR) today expressed “deep concern” over the expulsion of two Australian media rights activist by Sri Lankan authorities. “Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) and Centre for Human Rights and Research (CHR) Sri Lanka are deeply concerned about the expulsion of International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Asia Pacific Director Jacqui Park and another representative who were conducting a workshop organized by the Free Media Movement (FMM),” they said in a statement.
