New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in the second ODI played in Hambantota in a rain affected game. Sri Lanka scored 138/1 runs in 23 overs giving New Zealand a target of 198 in 23 overs on the D/L method. TM Dilshan scored 55 not out while Kumar Sangakkara was 71 not out for the Lankans when rain halted play. Tom Latham top scored for the Kiwis with 86 runs.

Chandrika and Kasun win gold at Malaysian Open
Chandrika Subashini and Kasun Kalhara of Sri Lanka won Gold medals in 400 meters women’s and men’s races respectively at the 89th Malaysian Open Athletics Championship. The Athletics Association of Sri Lanka stated that Subashini finished the race in 52.86 seconds while Kalhara clocked a time of 47.19 at the finals.

Manilal to appeal against ‘unfair’ lifetime ban
Former Sri Lankan football chief Manilal Fernando says that the lifetime ban imposed on him by FIFA is unfair and harsh and that he will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) against the ban. Fernando was banned from football for life by the world governing body on Wednesday after an appeal by him against an original judgement failed disastrously.

Manilal Fernando banned for life by FIFA
Former Sri Lankan football chief Manilal Fernando was banned from football for life by world governing body FIFA on Wednesday after an appeal by him against an original judgement failed disastrously. Fernando, a former member of the FIFA Executive Board, had appealed against an original eight year ban imposed on him at the end of April, while the chief investigator in the original case Michael J Garcia also appealed against the leniency of the punishment.

TM Dilshan to announce retirement from Test cricket
Former Sri Lankan Test cricket captain Tillekeratne Dilshan told Ada Derana that he is to formally announce his retirement from Test cricket tomorrow (October 10). Aged 36-years, Dilshan has scored a total of 5,492 runs at an average of 40.98 including 16 centuries and 23 half-centuries while his highest score remains the 193 runs against England at Lords in 2011.

Sri Lanka Cricket today denied reports that all-rounder Thisara Perera indulged in match-fixing during this year’s Indian Premier League, saying that it has full faith in its players. SLC rebuttal comes in the wake of a media report, which stated that a Mumbai-based bookie fixed an IPL match for INR 6 crore after striking deals with four players of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
