Sri Lanka dismisses latest Channel 4 video as fake
Sri Lanka today dismissed a latest video documentary released by Britain’s Channel 4 as “fake”, saying attempts are being made to discredit the army ahead of the Commonwealth conference. In the latest video, Channel 4 shows a group of soldiers surrounding a half-naked Tamil lady.

Security alert for Lankans in Tamil Nadu
A security alert has been sounded across Tamil Nadu following an attack on two Post Offices in Chennai yesterday (October 29), Indian Media reported. Armed security personnel were deployed to guard vital installations, particularly Sri Lankan establishments and Central Government offices, police sources said.

Can’t create different police force for a certain race - IGP

24 fishermen held with illegal nets
The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 24 local fishermen along with their 4 trawlers for using illegal fishing nets and engaging in poaching activities. Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya stated that the fishermen were arrested while they were fishing in seas off Trincomalee this morning. They have been handed over to the Fisheries Department for onward action, he said.

Navy arrests 37 Indian fishermen in Lankan waters
The Navy has apprehended 37 Indian fishermen who allegedly sailed into Sri Lankan waters illegally last night (October 14) off the coast of Delph and Talaimannar. The Navy arrested 15 fishermen who arrived in four boats off the coast of Delph while 15 fishermen who arrived on five vessels were apprehended off Talaimanar. Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya stated that the suspects were handed over to the police following their arrest.

Navy rescues 70 Australia-bound illegal immigrants
Image courtesy: Sri Lanka Navy Sri Lanka Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel, Sagara brought the 70 persons, who had been stranded in the south western deep seas, safely to the Galle harbour on Friday (04). The rescued persons included 44 men, 13 women and 13 children and they are all in good health, Navy said.
