SLAF MiG-27 crashes, pilot safe
A MiG-27 fighter aircraft belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has crashed near Dummalasuriya in Kurunegala today afternoon, a SLAF spokesman said. The aircraft which took off from Katunayake had crashed at around 1.35 pm, SLAF media spokesman Group Captain Andrew Wijesuriya said. The pilot had ejected from the aircraft before it hit the ground and is safe, he said.

Bus operators clash: 29 arrested
Several buses which had not taken part in the ongoing strike have reportedly been attacked today (Feb. 13) allegedly by other bus operators. Twenty-nine (29) persons were arrested in connection to the attacks on private buses operating in the Narahenpita area, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said.

UPDATE: Fishermen protest blocks Colombo-Chilaw road
The Colombo-Chilaw main road has been blocked at Periyamulla due to a protest by fishermen, the Ada Derana reporter confirms. Fishermen are protesting the recent fuel hike and the government’s failure to grant a concession. Meanwhile it has also been reported that roads in Negombo, Porutota, Wellaweediya and Kudapaduwa areas have also been blocked as a result of ongoing protests. Fishermen in the area have been engaged in protests since yesterday, setting tires on fire and shouting slogans on roads.

LPBOA to strike; other unions refuse to join
The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) says it will continue with the proposed strike and withdraw from operating buses from midnight today (Feb. 12) after diesel prices were increased last night.
