Competitive exam for SLAS recruitment
The Examinations Department will hold an open competitive examination for recruitment to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) today and tomorrow.
An Examination Department Senior Official told the Daily News that arrangements have been made to conduct the examination in Colombo at 196 centres and at eight centres in Jaffna. According to Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry sources, there are over 100 vacancies to be filled in various departments, ministries and District and Divisional Secretaries in the Government service. The new recruits will be deployed specially in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. The recruits will have to undergo a one year training which will be conducted by Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration before their appointment. The SLAS is the key administrative service of the Government, with officers working both in the Central government and Provincial Councils. It was formed as the Ceylon Administrative Service in 1963 as successor to the then Ceylon Civil Service which was abolished on May 1, 1963. After January 1, 2005, four Grades such as Special Grade, Class 1, Class 11, Class 111 were introduced to include the existing number of cadres at 200, 507,639 and 1,059.
