Experiments by a group of Lankan medical professionals have found that dengue could be successfully treated by the use of steroids. This was revealed at a discussion held by Professors S A N Kularatne, Ranjan Premaratne and Doctors, Kolitha Sellahewa, Wasantha Dissanayake and Kapila De Alwis at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. In experiments conducted on patients centred on the Peradeniya, Kandy, Gampola and Ragama hospitals using steroids a 100 percent success had been achieved according to them.
Although steroids had been used before even in other countries to treat dengue it had not been successful. This was attributed by these professionals to the steroids being administered when Dengue was in an advanced stage in a patient.Early treatment using this method has now proved to be successful they asserted.
