US support Sri lanka’s reconciliation process through LLRC.

The US State Department said that the U.S. is supporting Sri Lanka's own process of handling the accountability issue.

Responding to a question at the daily press briefing, Assistant Secretary Philip J. Crowley told the reporters in Washington yesterday that there is no meeting between a U.S. Government official and President Rajapaksa.

Assistant Secretary Philip J. Crowley stated that the US is supporting what Sri Lanka is doing and that it’s a process that is still ongoing.

Assistant Secretary Crowley expressed hope that Sri Lanka's own commission probing the events during the war would take advantage of the expertise from the United Nations Panel of Experts.

Crowley said the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission appointed by President Rajapaksa has been receiving testimony from hundreds of people and the Commission is to present its report to the President in June.
