Fuel sector infrastructure boost in NCP

Programmes to develop infrastructure facilities in the fuel sector including fuel requirements will be launched in the NCP concurrent to the Deyata Kirula exhibition under the direct supervision of the Petroleum Industries Ministry, CPC and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Company.

The programme estimated to cost Rs 50 million include the construction of private filling stations along Jayanthi Mawatha, Anuradhapura at a cost of Rs 50 million, said a press release by the Petroleum Industries Ministry. The release said the temporary diesel storage facility erected at the Deyata Kirula exhibition grounds will be extended to cover petrol and vested in the public in response to a request made by the Provincial Co-operative Development Department.

Rs 6.5 million will be spent on this programme. Another five filling stations belonging to the CPC situated at Oyamaduwa within municipal limits will be rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 7.1 million. Another 14 filling stations belonging to private distributors will also be rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 4.2 million.

The Pemaduwa diesel and kerosene store will be rehabilitated and upgraded to a petrol filling station at a cost of Rs three million.

A special exhibition stall displaying all activities connected to the fuel sector will be maintained at the Deyata Kirula exhibition grounds for the benefit of the public. Steps have also been taken to rehabilitate Asoka Vidyalaya at Siyambalagaswewa and transform it to a fully-equipped school at a cost of Rs 2.1 million under a social service programme undertaken on the directions of Minister Susil Premajayantha. The rehabilitated school will be opened at a ceremony held on February 4 at 2 pm attended by the minister and other ministry and corporation officials.
