'Opposition accusations pointless'

'There are two main methods of bringing a Bill in Parliament - as an urgent Bill and as an ordinary Bill. The Bills are brought in Parliament after presenting them to party leaders committee. 'There is no better democracy than this. Therefore the Opposition accusations are pointless, Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said. Yapa was addressing the weekly cabinet press briefing at the Government Information Department Auditorium yesterday.

Minister Yapa said that the government cannot listen only to what the UNP says. The UNP has to solve its own internal problems first before advising the government. Once a Bill is presented in Parliament, the MPs who agree to it vote for it and the MPs who disagree vote against. The majority wins. Responding to a question by a journalist, Minister Priyadarshana Yapa pointed out that it is Police which implements the law and it is up to the law enforcement officers.

'The government has nothing to do with it. It is same for all. There is a disciplinary inquiry going on in connection with 'Kelaniya issue' and a judgment is yet to be given.

'The Police should investigate every complaint. That is the procedure. Giving judgments is up to courts and the judiciary system. A complaint against a person does not make him/her a culprit. He is only a suspect until the law proves that he or she is accountable for the offence. Norochcholai coal power plant is the first coal power plant in Sri Lanka and a technical problem had occurred there. It is natural to have technical problems. The matter will be looked into by relevant authorities according to the service agreement signed with China, Minister Priyadarshana Yapa stated responding to a question.

'Employment will be given to all graduates according to relevant rules and regulations. Relevant procedures will be followed while giving employment to them. The entire process will be transparent. The government has already given employment to a large number of graduates', Minister Yapa added.
