Opposition should constructively criticise govt - Deputy Speaker
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody yesterday stated that the responsibility of an opposition which loves the country is to constructivly criticise the government and support it in finding solutions the country's issues.
The Deputy Speaker made this observation at a ceremony held to open a drinking water project at tsunami villages in Thiththagalla area in Ahangama, Galle . He also stated that the Opposition which claims there were issues in the country never support to solve those but just keep on criticizing and which should not be the role of a responsible opposition in a country. Weerakkody also stated that the Opposition which is unable to criticize the matters like the prices of essential goods, transport, roads, water and electricity as those issues are being addressed remarkably by the government, the Opposition has started to speak of 13 Plus. He added that the Opposition does not make any suggestions, but they only want to criticize. The Deputy Speaker further stated that the government's aim is to find a lasting solution that suits all which will intern strengthen the country's unity. He stated further that the opportunity has also been opened for the Opposition to make their suggestions without just making criticisms as the President has invited all the parties to get together on a platform to discuss this issue. He added that President Mahinda Rajapaksa who always preferred to listen to people in finding a solution for an issue has invited all parties to discuss this matter to find the best solution.
