Govt. holds casino gazette, to be amended Govt sources
![]() The Government last night decided to withdraw the Gazette to amend the Strategic Development Projects Act that enables the establishment of two casinos in Colombo, Government sources told Ada Derana. It is also revealed that the Government plans to amend the two gazette notifications and present it at a later date in future. One of the gazettes is to provide for the setting up of the Integrated Tourism Related Project at Glennie Street and Justice Akbar Mawatha, Colombo 02. Some government members have also expressed strong opposition to the gazettes including the Jathika Hela Urumaya. At a meeting held by the UPFA last evening which was chaired by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, some of the political parties shared their objections with the two gazette notifications. The two gazette notifications would have allowed tax concessions for the project being carried out by Australian tycoon James Packer in Sri Lanka. The UPFA decided to look into new proposals concerning the gazette notifications in the future.
