Saudi ends amnesty period given to over-stayers

Around 90% of Sri Lankans who were residing in Saudi Arabia illegally have been brought back to Sri Lanka, the Foreign Employment Bureau stated while the extended amnesty period given by Saudi authorities for over-stayers ended last night.

Saudi authorities on numerous occasions extended the grace period granted to those who have stayed in the country beyond their visas to exit the country without legal action being taken against them. However, the grace period came to and end at midnight yesterday.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employement Beaureu stated that many of the Sri Lankans had legal issues when attempting to come back to the island.
