Police raid another fake money printing press, 4 held

Peliyagoda Police today arrested four persons allegedly involved in printing a counterfeit currency notes. The arrests were made following a search carried out at a location in Peliyagoda, according to information received.

Fifteen counterfeit notes of Rs 1,000 denomination were found in the possession of the suspects while various equipment, including a computer used for printing the notes were also taken into police custody.

Peliyagoda Police are conducting further investigations into the suspects.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on October 28 carried out a raid on a counterfeit money printing press in Malabe and seized fake Rs 2,000 notes amounting to around Rs. 7 million.

Police said fake Rs 2,000 notes with the same serial number (P 67799159) have been found in various parts of the island as they appear to be in circulation.
